PSA Don’t Fall For Them Asking For Consent

Messy military lawyer. Today’s public service announcement involves police trying to get you to consent to get into your phone.

They may tell you something like, if we try to forcibly get into it, we could end up damaging all of the contents of your phone. You could lose all of your pictures, you could lose everything. So you should just go ahead and give us your passcode or your pin, or whatever it is that you have, so we don’t end up messing up your phone. It is entirely possible that you could lose the contents of your phone in the grand scheme of life. I think that’s better than potentially allowing them to get into your private world. You have to make that call, but I don’t know that they’re gonna go there. I don’t know that they’re gonna try to rip it past what they normally would. So considered self warned, messy military lawyer.
